President's Letter
It was wonderful getting to see so many familiar faces at RISKWORLD in San Diego last month! The DFW RIMS Chapter really showed up and represented. In case you missed it, the Texas RIMS happy hour was a blast complete with fringe and cowboy boots! We even got a surprise visit from Gary LaBranche, the CEO of RIMS Global, who was there to help us with a big announcement. (drumroll please…) The first ever state-wide Texas RIMS Conference will kick off in 2025! Gary welcomed Texas chapter leaders on stage during the closing finale of RISKWORLD for the official Texas-sized announcement, and I have to say that I was so proud to represent the incredible DFW RIMS chapter alongside our friends from the other Texas chapters! Mark your calendars, the first Texas RIMS conference will be held in San Antonio on August 4-6, 2025.
The idea of starting a Texas regional conference really started to gain traction when our former DFW RIMS President, Leldon Bulkley got involved. Leldon had dreams of a Texas regional conference and beginning back in 2021 he partnered up with Sara Coleman and the other Texas chapters to turn his dream into a reality. A Texas regional conference will be a way to expand the concept of the DFW Fall Conference and start a new legacy of collaboration with our fellow Texas chapters to offer a truly Texas-sized conference.
Now that you know where we are headed in the future, you can understand just how special the 2024 Fall Conference & Spa Event will be. The Conference Chair, our own incredible Vice President Marissa Holland, is putting together a show-stopping Fall Conference in September 2024. Marissa and the conference planning committee are dedicated to sending the “DFW RIMS Fall Conference” tradition out
with a bang!

RIMS RISKWORLD
The DFW RIMS Education committee led by Jason Hunt was thrilled to have the opportunity to send 4 young risk professionals to San Diego to attend RISKWORLD this year! Karine Chalhoub, Sarah Nawab, Zack Nguyen, and Jadon Grimes all had a great experience curated by Esequiel Nathal.
Karine, who plans to graduate from UNT in December with a BBA in Risk Management, reported that “the energy at this conference was incredible – from the inspiring sessions to the valuable networking opportunities.”
Recent UTD graduate Sarah Nawab, who studied Business Administration, Risk Management, and Cybersecurity, felt that the conference “also deepened my understanding of AI’s pivotal role in shaping future businesses” but also enjoyed unwinding with Levi, the therapy dog, presented by Sedgwick.
“The highlight of my trip was undoubtedly the insightful conversations with industry leaders…” said Zack Nguyen, who is pursuing his MS in finance at UTD.
UTD Risk Management program graduate Jadon Grimes posted “What stood out to me this year was the effort that they put into student involvement and inclusion. To be placed into a setting where we must blend in with the much more experienced professionals is of great benefit to our skills as students moving into our careers.”

We are thrilled to announce that our Mentorship Program will launch on August 1, 2024! This one-on-one experience allows mentees to partner with the perfect mentor for career guidance, networking opportunities, and skill development in the ever-evolving risk and insurance industry. Our goal is to pair current college scholars and young risk professionals with experienced mentors to provide valuable insight and support.
We want to thank everyone who has already shown interest in our program! If you are excited about this opportunity, don't hesitate to reach out today! The official launch date of our program is August 1st. Keep an eye out for our Welcome email around that time - we can't wait to get started!
