President's Letter

Season of Thanks: Welcoming New Leaders and Reflecting on Our Wins

The holiday season is officially here! Family and fellowship are priceless. I hope you find time to recharge your batteries with loved ones with holiday season.  

We have two months, and two DFW RIMS events left in 2025!  Can you believe it!  We’d love the opportunity to connect and hear from you—your thoughts, stories, and ideas matter.  Please connect with a board member at our next event and share how we can better support and serve you.

Speaking of fellowship, we would like to welcome new board members for the 2026 board. Please join us in welcoming: Directors: Jacob Pevehouse, Sandra Fontenot, Cory Mangum, Andy Rausch and Jacque Jagger. We also welcome Special Board Advisor Annabel Williams. We cannot wait to see what fresh ideas you bring to the board in 2026!

In case you missed it, here is a recap of our fall events: 

Golf Tournament - Thanks to the incredible support of our volunteers, sponsors, and participants.  We raised roughly $3,000 through raffles for our 2026 scholarship fund! A special shoutout to the Wendy Lanphere from CCMSI for the Dallas Cowboys - Ferguson autographed jersey!  One of many great additions to the raffles this year! Thank You to Our Wonderful Golf Volunteers & Sponsors!

Clay Shoot - We came, we aimed, we shattered expectations! The clay shoot was a beautiful, fun-filled day—full of camaraderie and perfect weather. Trophy Winners 
1st Place Team: Team Paradigm –  Billy Onion, Mark Barta, Chris Lam, and Pat O’Toole; First Place Individual: Billy Onion.

The November luncheon will be a mixer in the afternoon.  We are hosting a food drive, please bring a nonperishable item to the event.

To each of you who show up, volunteer, share ideas, and bring energy to our events, thank you. Your engagement is the heartbeat of this chapter, and together, we’re building something truly special.

If I don’t see you, I’m wishing you a safe and joy filled Thanksgiving.  We hope to see you at the mixer on the 19th!

What’s something new or interesting you’ve learned recently?
There is a fish called an Elephant Fish in the Congo River that has a long snout like an elephant. They send electrical pulses to sense their surroundings due to their limited eyesight.

Teresa Chan, Director of Insurance Management program at Columbia University, is a mentor of mine as she is always helping me expand my knowledge and perspective on risk management & insurance topics through engaging and collaborative discussions

What’s your guilty pleasure right now?
Copious amounts of Texas BBQ

What’s an under-rated skill everyone can benefit from?
Diplomacy, using collaboration and communication with different groups/individuals across an organization to get things done

What’s the last thing you completed that you’re proud of?
Keynote speech for the Lockton Construction conference on fleet risk management

I have a picture of my family that I keep close by my monitors that cheers me up.

What’s your guilty pleasure right now?
A bowl of ice cream after the kids go to bed for the night.

If you were a cocktail, which one would you be?
A Manhattan 

What’s something new or interesting you’ve learned recently?
I have recently learned how to fly fish

What’s an under-rated skill everyone can benefit from?
I think everyone could benefit from learning how to sew. Sewing a hem or reattaching a button are great skills to have!

Ping Pong (I did my freshman year at UT-San Antonio before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin and I won the doubles ping pong championship at UTSA)

What’s something on your desk, a nearby wall, or out the window that cheers you up during the day?
Artwork from my kids. They put it in my bag and then expect either a photo or a FaceTime to make sure that it is on my wall at work.

What’s something you’ve drawn inspiration from recently?
My 5 year old son. He has autism and if I am ever feeling tired or unproductive, I remind myself how hard he is working to improve his speech & other abilities every single day.

If you had to sing karaoke right now, which song would you pick?
Anything from Matchbox 20

If you were a cocktail, which one would you be?
An Old Fashioned

Traveling the world and volunteering for disaster recovery efforts.

The LinkedIn Edge - we've got to work harder and smarter
