Join us for our Career Ready RMI Program, a dynamic series of interactive workshops designed to equip you with the tools, confidence, and insight needed to successfully launch and navigate your career in risk management and insurance. Beginning with a virtual open house on April 24 and continuing through hands-on sessions covering career exploration, job search strategies, resume building, professional presence, and interview preparation, this program supports you at every stage of the process. The series culminates with an in‑person Career Ready Event on August 20 as a kickoff of our mentor program, bringing together everything you’ve learned to help you move forward career‑ready and resilient.

OBJECTIVE: Our goal is to prepare risk management students and young risk professionals to become future business leaders by linking them with experienced risk management and insurance mentors to provide valuable insight and support.

TIME COMMITMENT: A few hours in August

SAMPLE ACTIVITIES (VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON):

Career Development & Skill Building
•    Mock interviews tailored to risk management roles
•    Resume and LinkedIn profile review with targeted feedback
•    Practicing risk related case studies or scenario based problem solving
•    Reviewing real world risk reports, dashboards, or loss run analyses
•    Co creating a personal development plan or early career roadmap
•    Discussing certifications (ARM, CRM, CPCU) and how to pursue them
•    Exploring different career paths within risk management, insurance, and compliance

Networking & Relationship Building
•    Breakfast, lunch, or dinner meetings focused on career conversations
•    Attending corporate social events such as company picnics, holiday parties, or team outings
•    Introducing the mentee to colleagues across departments (finance, legal, HR, operations)
•    Facilitating networking with brokers, underwriters, claims adjusters, or other industry partners
•    Participating in community or volunteer events sponsored by the company
•    Attending RIMS chapter events, webinars, or roundtables together

Hands On Risk Management Activities
•    Participating in corporate tours (claims centers, underwriting offices, safety facilities, etc.)
•    Observing a risk assessment, site inspection, or safety walk through
•    Sitting in on renewal strategy discussions or insurance program reviews
•    Reviewing a recent claim file and discussing lessons learned
•    Walking through a risk mapping or heat mapping exercise
•    Exploring business continuity or crisis management planning
•    Participating in a tabletop exercise or emergency response drill
•    Reviewing insurance policies together to understand coverage structure
•    Analyzing a recent incident report and discussing root cause analysis

May 4 (30 min Virtual)

•    Develop effective mentoring skills, including active listening and goal‑setting
•    Learn best practices for supporting students’ professional and personal growth
•    Understand boundaries, timelines, and communication strategies for successful mentoring relationships
•    Prepare mentors to confidently launch meaningful, mutually beneficial connections
